The Economist said that:

  • During the first 6 years of Reagan’s presidency, the US economy grew 22% and the median household income grew by 6%.
  • During the first 6 years of Clinton’s presidency, the US economy grew 24% and the median household income increased 11%.
  • During the first 6 years of George W. Bush’s presidency, the US economy grew 16% and the median household income decreased by 2%.
  • During the first 6 years of Obama’s presidency, the US economy grew 8% and the median household income declined 4%.
  • Adjusted for inflation, the American middle class is 1% poorer today than it was in 1989.

The IMF projected that the US will be one of the very fastest growing advanced economies in the world in 2015.

Pew Research Center said that 56% of Americans say they are falling behind financially, the same rate as in October 2008.
